Thrivent Partners with Hats & Mittens

Help us celebrate the 52nd Big Game by collecting 52,000 pairs of hats and mittens

Winter's chill was in the air when Rebecca Jorgenson Sundquist saw a mother and her three young children shivering in the cold. They were dressed in light summer clothes – no match for Minnesota’s biting November winds.

In that instant, I decided I was going to give the woman my sweater," explains Sundquist. "When I did, she had this wonderful smile. She did more for me that day than I ever did for her.

Following that experience, Sundquist founded Minneapolis-based Hats & Mittens. The nonprofit collects warm weather gear and raises money to provide free hats and mittens to children in need during the cold winter months.

"In that instant, I decided I was going to give the woman my sweater," explains Sundquist. "When I did, she had this wonderful smile. She did more for me that day than I ever did for her. "

This winter, Thrivent Financial is partnering with Hats & Mittens to collect and raise funds for 52,000 pairs of hats and mittens in conjunction with Thrivent's role as a Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee Partner.

"Minnesota winters are cold – but Thrivent members are warm and generous," says Karen Himle, vice president of Corporate Affairs at Thrivent Financial. "In celebration of the 52nd Big Game, Thrivent members will have the chance to make thousands of children just a bit warmer too."
