Meet Monique Gallery, Northwest Region's Thrivent Member Network (TMN) specialist. Monique is one of 18 specialists across the country who create member events to encourage participation and action in local communities to help create positive change.

1. What is a Thrivent Member Network and how do specialists help members?

All Thrivent members are part of their local Thrivent Member Network, a regional group of people who do good in their congregations, communities and beyond. The network is our members’ connection to special programs and resources that can help them follow their passions and take action.

As a TMN specialist, I help members live out their Wise With Money Journey and feel part of something bigger. One way I do this is by bringing members together for Thrivent events. Much of my time is spent creating first-class experiences and delivering content our members find valuable.

2. How would you recommend members throughout the country get involved with their Thrivent Member Networks?

The best way to get involved is find an event and get going! Our networks across the country are activating members to do good in their community in so many unique and meaningful ways.

3. How do you support members on their Wise With Money Journey?

We recently brought in best-selling author, international speaker and economist, Tom Hegna. Hegna educated members about retirement security, sharing information that can shape one of the most important decisions of their lives.

4. How does your work support the causes members care so deeply about?

We empower our members to take advantage of the unique member benefits Thrivent offers. One way we do this is to lead by example. At many of our events, we walk members through the steps of leading a Thrivent Action Team. This hands-on, experiential approach helps members see how easy and effective just one Thrivent Action Team can be in meeting a need in their communities!

Survey results and Thrivent Action Team data revealed that most of our members care deeply about children and education. This led our TMN to team up with Reading Partners – Seattle to provide 116 students with weekly one-on-one tutoring to help them reach grade-level reading before fourth grade.

We also led a Thrivent Action Team event to fill backpacks with school supplies for children graduating from the Reading Partners program.

5. Why are you passionate about helping members give back to their communities?

I have seen our member benefits make an immediate impact so many times. One member, who served as the church librarian, shared her pain with me that the library was going to close due to lack of funding. I let her know she had $750 Thrivent Choice Dollars® she could direct to the organization of her choice and that her church was on our recipient list. She broke down in tears when she realized Choice Dollars could be used to keep the church library open. I was also moved to tears, hearing her joy and praising God for that moment.

6. Tell us about a specific meaningful event or experience that motivates you to continue the work you do.

For the past two years, Thrivent Member Network Northwest has partnered with the American Cancer Society and its Relay For Life events. Through our regional efforts we’ve brought together 14 Relay For Life teams and raised more than $55,000. These events are particularly meaningful to me because in 2014 I lost my aunt Teri to pancreatic cancer and my aunt Jan is coming to the end of a 10-year battle with breast cancer
